AMY GRASSI WATSON, PC

I am honored to have the opportunity to work with those who are pursuing mental health care, emotional healing, balance, and self-growth.

Here is a little bit about me and how this career path started for me…..

In the 9th grade, I took my first psychology class, and it was the beginning of this amazing journey both professionally and personally. In 1993, I obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Barton College. My early career was in the public mental health sector, in the field of developmental disabilities. In 1998, I obtained my graduate degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Substance Abuse Counseling from East Carolina University. I continued to work in public mental health, in management positions, for adult and child mental health services. In 2009, I decided to obtain my LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) and began my private practice. In 2017, I decided to pursue licensure to supervise new therapists and obtained my LCMHC-S. My specialties are treating trauma (single incident, developmental trauma, and attachment trauma).

I am also a certified group fitness instructor. I have been in the fitness industry since I was 19. Where appropriate and needed, I lean on my fitness education and mental health training to help others with their health and fitness goals.

I am intentional about balancing my career with all the other key aspects of my life. I enjoy spending time with my family, and my two golden retrievers, exercising, traveling, reading, and sometimes, relaxing in front of the TV. Spirituality is a key part of my life. I have found this to also be an essential area to explore in therapy. (Remember, in all aspects of therapy, you are always in the driver’s seat regarding what we explore or not explore).

Psychotherapy is one of the few professions, that is heavily based on human connection and experience. Studies have shown that a successful therapeutic experience is based 80% on the personality match between the therapist and the patient. Psychotherapy sessions are protected by high levels of confidentiality and are, for the most part, a one-way relationship. However, there may be times when self-disclosure is appropriate to benefit from treatment. There are also times, self-disclosure is not appropriate and therapeutic boundaries are important to protect you and the therapeutic relationship.

Thank you and if you would like more information about my practice, please refer to the Disclosure Statements and Consent for Treatment documents located in the ‘Forms’ tab of this website. You are also always welcome to contact me via phone or e-mail.
